The best part of this elegant and Savvy Ladylike journey is you get to do the upper class things and experience what they experience—spending 5 hours on a degustation meal at world’s number one restaurant, at the time of visiting, indulge in fancy afternoon teas, and jet setting in Business Classes and staying in all inclusive 5-star resorts, all in the name of ‘cultivating refined tastes’!
Isn’t this the lifestyle you’ve been dreaming about?
You’re a driven, intelligent woman who has worked hard to build a career and navigate the complexities of modern life. Yet, beneath the success, something is missing. There’s a quiet voice of doubt. A lingering question: Am I truly living the elegant woman life I’m meant to be?
You crave a refined lifestyle, being surrounded by beautiful things and pursuing elegant experiences with a sense of sophistication. You admire elegance in others but wonder if it’s truly accessible to you. Let me assure you—it absolutely is!
True elegance isn’t about wealth, status, or perfection. It’s about stepping into your fullest self with grace, intention, and refinement. It’s not wining and dining in Michelin-starred restaurants every time or staying in 5-star resorts on every holiday.
“Elevating your life is not about excessive spending or living extravagantly beyond your means.”
Living a refined lifestyle is not about grand gestures. It’s about finding beauty and joy in everyday moments, pepper in with fancy restaurants and luxury holidays. Elevate your life is about cultivating refined tastes through carefully curated activities and embracing intentional living.

What Does ‘Elevate Your Life’ and ‘Refined Living’ Mean?
Elevating your life and refined living mean different things to different people. What does it mean to you?
To most of us, ‘elevating your life’ is synonymous with feeling elegant, classy and high-value. So we want to be in an environment where we feel refined, proper and sophisticated. We want to be waited upon and treated like we are the most important woman in the world.
This means seeking activities and going to places that give us that feeling. Often, this is in high-end luxury places. They know how to make a woman feel classy and important.
An elevated lifestyle also means prioritising quality over quantity, taking time out to wine and dine, building quality connections, and choosing to pursue elegant hobbies instead of watching Netflix.
By the way, my current infatuation is calligraphy, fountain pens and inks! Comment below if you feel me.
However, beyond the grand gestures, it’s even more important to find ways to elevate your day-to-day. This means approaching each day with a purpose, presence, and deep appreciation for quality—both in experiences and in self-expression.
It’s about aligning your outer world with the elegant woman you are inside.
Refined living isn’t about excess or extravagance. It’s about being thoughtful and intentional with how you live your life, from the way you carry yourself, how you speak, the energy you bring into a room, to the things you do for leisure.
It’s the difference between rushing through your morning routine and savoring your first sip of coffee. It’s the difference between filling your calendar with obligations and choosing meaningful experiences that enrich your soul.
Here at The Savvy Ladylike, I teach my three-step strategy: Discover, Refine, Elevate to transform your life. Elevate is the third step and the most fun to work on. You get to experience new things and experiment with different activities to see which ones you enjoy.
At the end of the day, we all have choices. The decisions you made yesterday have led you to where you are today. And the choices you make today, will lead you to where you’re going to be tomorrow.
So today, right now, you can choose to take action towards building your dream life or you can simply choose to close this article, go back to your same old same old life and continue dreaming about what your life could’ve been.
If you have chosen a refined way of living, then the next section is for you. We will go through a step-by-step guide on how you can elevate your everyday moments, not just the grand annual holidays.
1. Identify Simple Ways to Elevate Your Everyday Moments
As I mentioned previously, you don’t need grand gestures to step into an elevated life. Sometimes, the biggest transformative shifts come from the smallest, most intentional actions.
This first step is all about learning how to find joy in the simple things in life. Make a conscious effort to see beauty instead of fault. This could simply be going for a walk and admiring the first blooms of spring. Or light your favourite candle and take a moment out of your busy day to enjoy a cup of tea.
Whatever it might be, you don’t need to look hard and far to find opportunities to elevate your everyday moments. Often it’s about being present and enjoy that very moment.
Here are some techniques you can adopt to help you be more present and find joy in the everyday mundane stuff.
Give them a go. They have changed my life, and I know they will change yours, too. It may require you to see things from a different perspective, but give yourself grace and be patient with yourself.
1.1. Cultivate Mindfulness and Intentional Living
“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present”.
– Lao Tzu
This is my favourite quote. My guiding principle, if you like! I used to be a very anxious person, and I didn’t know why… until I came across this quote from Lao Tzu, and everything unlocked for me. I started mindfulness practice and never looked back.
Elevated living starts with being at peace with your life. It’s not having a perfect life. It’s being at peace and content with all the cards you’ve been dealt—the good, the bad and the ugly.
Therefore, it’s very appropriate that learning how to live in the present is the foundation to refined living.
If you’re constantly lost in the noise of self-doubt or societal expectations, you’ll miss the beauty of your own life and what is in front of you.
For example, if you’re having playtime with your kids whilst scrolling your phone, then you’re not really experiencing the joy of being with your kids.
Or if you’re on a date night and your mind is at work or plotting how you can get your hands on a limited edition fountain pen (hehe… guilty), your conversations are going to be pretty lame, right?
I’m not saying we have to be perfectly present all the time, but it’s about being conscious of your mind drifting away from the present moment and bringing it back.
Get out of your head!
Mindfulness practice or meditation is the best technique to train your mind to be present. You will learn to be more aware of your thoughts and your surroundings.
How to start Mindfulness practise
The best and only way, in my opinion, to practice mindfulness is… yep, guessed it, mindfulness exercise and/or meditation.
When I was living in my anxious era, my colleague recommended this Mindfulness book by Mark Williams. It’s an excellent introduction to mindfulness practice.
He breaks down how to get started one chapter at a time, from 3-minute breathing exercises to working through your childhood demons and freeing yourself from the past. Each chapter also comes with an audio guide of his voice soothingly guiding you through the practice.
If you want to try out mindfulness practice but don’t know where to start, then this book is perfect for you!
There are also a plethora of apps, like Calm, and free audio guides on YouTube to help you get started.
How to cultivate a refined and Intentional mindset
Once you start doing daily mindfulness practice, you will be more conscious of thoughts and naturally become more intentional.
But if mindfulness isn’t your thing, you can try these techniques to cultivate a refined and intentional mindset:
Start your day with presence:
Instead of scrolling your phone first thing in the morning, take a few deep breaths, stretch, and set an intention for your day.
Why not use the time on your morning routine, give yourself an express facial with luxurious skincare products, or just simply enjoy that first sip of coffee in the morning stillness?
Gratitude journaling:
This should be of no surprise to you, as I’ve spoken about this often, and it’s part of my morning routing.
Write down three things you’re grateful for; whether you do it first thing in the morning or last thing at night, it doesn’t matter. Just give yourself 5 minutes each day to do this.
This is really humbling and keeps us grounded. When you approach life with gratitude, you will start to see more beauty and joy in your surroundings, despite all the negative things our head likes to remind us of! We can crush it with our gratefulness.
1.2. Prioritise Health and Wellbeing
An elegant life starts with how you care for yourself. When you feel good, you exude confidence effortlessly.
Prioritize nourishment:
Ditch the processed foods and restrictive diets! Please! Focus on eating fresh, wholesome and nutritious foods that make you feel vibrant. I always encourage people to cook everything from scratch using fresh vegetables, instead of using canned substitutes.
I know it’s more convenient and gets the job done quickly, but there’s no nutrition value in processed foods! Refined living is about eating healthy and looking healthy. You need to start looking after our body.
Move with grace:
Exercise! I know, I know, I don’t want to hear it either, but it is the best form of looking after your health and wellbeing.
If you’re not a fan of sweaty workouts and heavy weights like me, then opt for exercises that are more graceful, with softer and more feminine movements that connect you to your body, such as pilates, yoga, barre.
I just started my Reformer Pilates journey, it’s a killer for sure, but I feel so so good afterwards. You should join me! 🙂
Protect your time and energy:
Say no to overcommitting. Stop saying yes to things that don’t align with your values and goals. It’s ok if you’d rather stay home to practise calligraphy instead of going to the cinema.
No one’s going to die. Your time and energy is finite. So make sure you prioritise things that are important to you.
Rest is not a luxury; it’s essential!
1.3. Adopt Self-Care as a Ritual, Not an Afterthought
Self-care isn’t just about spa days and scented candles (though those are lovely). True self-care is honoring yourself daily. You can elevate your life by adding a bit of luxury to your daily rituals:
Prioritize inner elegance:
Practice elegant hobbies such as floral arrangement, calligraphy, drawing, painting, or listening to music that stirs your soul, and engage in conversations that expand your mind.
Elevate your skincare routine:
Not for vanity, but for the ritual of caring for your reflection. Elegant women take care of their appearance.
Invest in high-quality basics:
Feeling good about what you wear and use is a form of self-care. A well-fitting blazer, a timeless handbag, or a signature scent can redefine how you feel about yourself.
1.4. Embrace Slow Living
Refinement isn’t found in busyness—it’s in the spaces between. Slow down. Live in the present moment. Allow yourself to fully experience life’s beauty.
If you find that you’re always hustling, moving from meeting to meeting, one activity after another, this next bit is for you!
Simplify your schedule:
Replace obligations with moments of real connection and rest. At work, schedule meetings 5 minutes less than the hour or the half hour (i.e. instead of 30 minutes, schedule for 25 minutes; instead of an hour, schedule if for 55 minutes).
This way, you get to have 5 minutes to yourself rather than having back-to-back meetings all day!
A lady needs her comfort break!
Savor small pleasures:
Wake 10 min extra so you can enjoy that first sip of coffee in the morning. Don’t forget to use that special bone china mug you’ve been saving for your daily coffee. If not now, then when?
Make the habit of having all your meals on the dining table, with proper utensils. Now and then (I know we’re still not quite there yet to use this every day), bring out the good sets. Stop saving things for “special occasions”. Every meal with your loved ones is a special occasion!
Stop rushing:
There’s nothing more unkempt than rushing around, weaving through traffic or zigzagging between people in London trying to get to your destination on time.
If you’re always running late (yes, me too!), add an extra 5 or 10 minutes to your get ready and commute time.
However, if you are going to be late, it’s ok! Just graciously let the host know.
When you arrive, before you present yourself, take a couple of minutes to catch your breath, compose yourself, and go to the bathroom to freshen up before walking into a room full of people.
Politely apologise to the host and move on. These things happen.
Let your life feel luxurious in the simplest ways.
2. Create an Elegant Home
Following on from elevating the simple things theme, your home should be a reflection of your elevated self. You don’t need a mansion—just a bit of regular organisation and intentiona arrangements is enough to add a spark of elegance to your space.
Declutter mindfully:
Keep only what is beautiful or useful. Clarity in your space creates clarity in your mind. Establish a seasonal reset routine or spring clean ritual to freshen your home and invite new energy and inspiration into the house.
Make sure you have a home for every item in the house. Every time you use it, make an effort to put it back in its place. This way, your house will always be tidy.
Incorporate small luxuries:
I love having fresh flowers in the house. It adds so much to my mental well-being for such a small gesture.
The next time you go to a supermarket, pick up a bunch of flowers to decorate the house. You can even practice some floral arrangement skills.
Get some luxury candles in a signature scent for your home, and light it up when you feel like it. My favourite is this Roses scent from Diptyque.
Invest in quality over quantity:
One exquisite candle over ten cheap ones. A curated wardrobe over a cluttered closet.
Thoughtful simplicity is elegance.
3. Cultivate Refined Tastes through Elevated Experiences
Life isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how you do it. Elevating your life means choosing experiences that enrich your soul, not just your schedule.
This is where the fun begins! Living your dream life by putting everything you’ve learnt about looking elegant, having exquisite manners, and social savviness into practice, by doing the upper class things and hanging out in the upper class places to
- cultivate refined tastes;
- align your inner world with your surroundings; and
- connect with like-minded high-value people like you.
This is going to need you to tap into your ‘elegance fund’ I’m afraid. I apologise in advance, but I’d be lying if I told you otherwise. Cultivating refined taste requires investment.
That said, you will not be mindlessly splurging on things just because your favouriate influencer told you so on Instagram. You will be savvy and intentional with how you spend your money.
For example, instead of getting takeout 5 times a week, opt to cook more at home (it’s healthier too!) and put the money towards a date night in a nice restaurant once a month or every quarter.
Consider taking shorter holidays so you can stay in a luxury hotel instead of having longer holidays and staying in an Airbnb.
Embrace a slow travel style and take your time to immerse yourself into local culture instead of trying to tick off everything on the top 50 things to do in X list.
It’s about prioritising spending your hard earned money on areas that elevate your life.
3.1. Prioritising Quality Experiences Over Quantity
Rather than filling your calendar with mindless outings, opt for experiences that inspire you to be more elegant. This may require you to do things outside of your comfort zone and visit places you’ve never been to before.
Embrace it. Do some experimenting to find what you really enjoy. Here are some of my suggestions. If you’re in the U.K. most museums and art galleries are free!
Visit a museum or an art gallery: Enhance your cultural knowledge by visiting museums and galleries. Learn to appreciate art. Let yourself feel the brushstrokes and stories behind each piece.
Attend a classical music concert: Even if you’re new to it, let the music wash over you. Learning is elegant.
A and I went to a New Year’s Eve concert in Palermo, Sicily a few years ago, for the first time, and to our surprise, we absolutely loved it. It was one of the most elegant experiences we’ve ever had. All this to say, try something new. You might find a new love.
Explore fine dining with confidence: Study menus, learn about wine pairings, and enjoy the experience of a beautifully plated dish.
3.2. Sophisticated Travel (Even on a Budget)
Elevated travel isn’t all about five-star hotels—it’s about experiencing the world with depth and intention.
- Opt for slow travel: Instead of cramming your itinerary, savor one city or one experience at a time.
- Research hidden gems: Find local cafés, bookstores, or museums that reflect the culture to enrich your soul.
- Pack with purpose: A well-curated travel wardrobe means fewer decisions and more presence.
4. Refine Your Social Circle
Your environment—including the people in it—shapes who you become. Elevating your life requires surrounding yourself with those who reflect the woman you aspire to be.
Seek out women who inspire you:
Join a book club, attend networking events, or engage in communities that value refinement and personal growth, such as our very own community, The Savvy Society. See what I just did there? 😉
I also find Facebook is a great place to find your people. There are endless Facebook Groups that are free to join for whatever hobby, passion, or niche you’re into. You’re bound to find one.
Needless to say, make sure you stick to activities that enhance your elegant woman lifestyle so you can meet like-minded people.
I mentioned earlier that my current love is fountain pens, inks and calligraphy. In my quest to learn more about this art, I stumbled upon the Fountain Pen UK Facebook Group.
It’s been a super fun and informative way to connect with people who have the same passion. There’s nothing like having real people to ask questions and bounce ideas/thoughts with!
And guess what? I’m going to the London Pen Show (I didn’t even know it was a thing!!), but here we are. I couldn’t be more excited!
Let go of relationships that no longer align with your goals:
A common challenge that causes people to give up on their transformation is the existing relationships that are holding them back.
I get it; it’s not easy to let go of people in your life, and some relationships you don’t get to choose, like your family.
But if someone makes you feel inadequate or drains your energy, permit yourself to step away graciously.
You don’t have to explicitly tell them you’re going to stop seeing them if that’s not comfortable. You can just see them less. You’re a high-class woman with a lot of engagements; you’ll need to “check your schedule” to see when you can fit them in.
That said, some relationships (like romantic ones) require closure. Have the courage and grace to break up with them properly. Remember to be kind. Celebrate the good times you’ve had together instead of dwelling on the negatives.
Cultivate meaningful conversations:
Depth over drama, always! Cull the small talk and use “Big Talk” techniques to have deeper and more meaningful conversations.
As Vanessa Van Edwards teaches in her book Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People, small talk is the death of lasting impressions. I’d go a step further and say if you always keep your conversation at the ‘small talk’ level, you won’t be able to build meaningful connections with anyone.
Find “Conversational Sparks [to create] unique talking points to create pleasurable and memorable conversations.”
The next time you connect with someone, look for conversational sparks to develop more meaningful conversations.
The Path to Elevation is Yours
You don’t need permission to elevate your life. You already have everything you need within you.
Elegance isn’t about what you own or where you come from—it’s about how you show up in the world. It’s about confidence, presence, and the quiet power of knowing who you are.
So, take a breath. Stand tall. Speak with intention. Savor life’s beauty.
The journey has already begun.
Now tell me—what’s one small way you’ll elevate your life today? ✨
